About this artwork
A flowing polished stainless-steel sculpture that mirrors the meeting of the Zumbro River's north and south branches. Rainwater channels along grooves in the surface and cascades into a small basin below, making the piece animated during and after storms.
The Story
Nakamura conducted a six-month residency in Rochester, mapping the Zumbro River's historical course and interviewing longtime residents about the river's role in the city's identity. The curved form references topographic maps of the confluence point before 1920s channelization.
About the Artist
Japanese-American sculptor exploring themes of water, convergence, and urban ecology. Nakamura's site-specific works respond to the particular hydrology and history of each location.
